چکیده

Paper discusses Advanced Aircraft configurational approaches, across the speed range, which are either enabled, or greatly enhanced, by clever Flow Control. Configurations considered include Channel Wings with circulation control for VTOL [but non-hovering] operation with high cruise speed, strut-braced CTOL transports with wing-tip engines and extensive [ÒnaturalÓ] laminar flow control, a midwing double fuselage CTOL approach utilizing several synergistic methods for drag-due-to-lift reduction, a supersonic strut-braced configuration with order of twice the L/D of current approaches and a very advanced, highly engine flow-path-integrated hypersonic cruise machine. Paper indicates both the promise of synergistic flow control approaches as enablers for ÒRevolutionsÓ in aircraft performance and fluid mechanic Òareas of ignoranceÓ which impede their realization and provide Òtarget-richÓ opportunities for Fluids Research.

Analysis of air injection system for drag reduction in high speed vessels using numerical simulation software ANSYS-Fluid Flow

Many existing phenomena in nature are considered new design ideas in various fields of industry. Bionics is the application of biological methods and systems found in nature to the study and design of engineering systems and modern technology. By performing bionic review, the researchers found the penguins by delivering air locked under their wings and creating air bubbles, the drag significant...

Parametric study of a viscoelastic RANS turbulence model in the fully developed channel flow

One of the newest of viscoelastic RANS turbulence models for drag reducing channel flow with polymer additives is studied in different flow and rheological properties. In this model, finitely extensible nonlinear elastic-Peterlin (FENE-P) constitutive model is used to describe the viscoelastic effect of polymer solution and turbulence model is developed in the k-ϵ-(ν^2 ) ̅-f framework. The geome...

Drag reduction by polymers in wall bounded turbulence.

We elucidate the mechanism of drag reduction by polymers in turbulent wall-bounded flows: while momentum is produced at a fixed rate by the forcing, polymer stretching results in the suppression of momentum flux to the wall. On the basis of the equations of fluid mechanics we develop the phenomenology of the "maximum drag reduction asymptote" which is the maximum drag reduction attained by poly...

Performance Improvements of a Centrifugal Pump with Different Impellers using Polymer Additive

In this study, the performance of a centrifugal pump is investigated by adding polyacrylamide (PAM) polymer over the working fluid which is tap water in this case. PAM is a long chain polymer that leads to reduce the wall shear stress and drag in a turbulent fluid. Three different blade profiles including radial, straight backward and circular backward have been examined. For this purpose, a ce...
